In 1999 the Woman and Infant Centre was opened on the other previously empty floor bringing together medical services for women at all stages of life and for newborns. Shaare Zedek has the largest neonatal intensive care unit in Jerusalem and the second highest birth rate in Israel, running at over 1,000 births each month.
